Early One Morning....

Early morning at the cottage a few days ago, looking over the Kellas Fell Plantation.

Moon Set...

The sky was crystal clear this morning here in South Northumberland, and the moon wonderful.

Wednesday 14 December 2016

A trip to the Osteopath in Durham today, followed by several cups of coffee and a delicious cake at the Cathedral, always a favourite visit since childhood.

I didn't have time to find out about these crosses on the edge of Palace Green, next week perhaps.......

Monday 5 December 2016

Earlier today, the sky at the Cottage was looking as if it was marble, a mixture of wispy cloud and jet trails.

Evening Sky in the Tyne Valley

From Thornbrough Quarry near Corbridge.

Friday 2 December 2016

Interesting cloudscape over Townhead and Hexhamshire yesterday afternoon.

A Foggy Morning

I opened the front door a few days ago and the view up to the Kellas Woods was shrouded in fog and morning light...

Friday 4 November 2016

Birch Polypore

I found this Polypore on a log pile above our little burn today.

Tuesday 18 October 2016

An unknown fungi in the field this morning, a shot made more difficult when Piper the Labrador kept dropping a stick on my head as I lay on the grass....!!

Beside the Burn this morning, I just loved the colours....

Tuesday 4 October 2016

One God and his Dog.......

The River God Tyne outside Newcastle-upon-Tyne Civic Centre today, along with his "Snowdog", presumably called "Wor Tadger".....!!

Street Art

A striking piece of Street artwork in beside the Ouseburn today..

St Andrew's Church, Corbridge

One of the lovely stained glass windows.  Today was the first time I have been in here, my father was Confirmed in this lovely church around 1930 I guess.

Thursday 22 September 2016

The Sage

I am fascinated by the roof of the Sage Arts Centre in Gateshead...

Wednesday 21 September 2016

The View

The View, University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne Business School and a.n. other. I have had my eye on these three buildings for a few years now, today the light was perfect for what I wanted...

Wednesday 31 August 2016

For the last few summers I have spent hours picking my way through the nettle patches on our land and finding a rich and varied stock of insects but this year they are barren.  Perhaps the ducks who spend a lot of time grazing there have eaten them all?

This summer I will have to make do with  a nettle leaf.......

Friday 26 August 2016

The gills of a fungi I found in Slaley Forest a few weeks ago.

Thursday 25 August 2016

Saturday 20 August 2016

We are quite blessed living here at the cottage for many reasons, not least of which is the regular, magnificent sunsets.....

Sunday 14 August 2016

Lesser Stitchwort

Lesser Stitchwort nestling in a bracken frond on the banks above the burn today.

Dock Leaf

The time of year when leaves start to change colour is rapidly arriving. This dock leaf is one of the first.

Dock Leaf - Holly Cottage

Solanum tuberosum L.

Every year we have potatoes growing in the compost bays, none of them planted but growing from some which must have been waste from the kitchen years ago.  No idea what it's companion is called, a hoverfly of some sort.

Post Referendum Apocalypse ......?

I have it on good authority that this is what the sunsets will look like post EU Referendum. Now then, was it the "Stronger-in" or "Brexit" chap who told me.........? Never mind, sounds like we are buggered either way..!!

Version 2

Saturday 21 May 2016

I found a lovely patch of daisies in the orchard at the cottage this morning.

Friday 22 April 2016

We have a pile of timber in the field waiting to be split into logs, as it is drying the surface the wood is developing more and more character.

Wednesday 20 April 2016

The primroses beside our burn are probably at their peak at the moment, I took this shot in the evening sunlight today.

Monday 18 April 2016

Pink Tinged Daisy

You will have to forgive me for another photo of these lovely little common daisies, tinged with pink, I think they are fascinating....

Autumn in Spring

Spring is here (it must be, snow yesterday!) and the usual plants are beginning to come into flower.  Beside the Burn there are still reminders of Autumn, this bramble leaf looks gloriously autumnal in the bright sunshine this morning.  I am guessing that this discolouration is caused by fungal decay.

Tuesday 5 April 2016

A very mixed weather day was trailing into an dull and undramatic evening, then I glanced out of the window as the clouds eased to bring this view over Townhead to Hexhamshire beyond....

30 minutes earlier, a Barn Own flew past.......
